Definitely on Team I-Want-My-Commute-Back, or, as you mention here, some form of a commute.
I think it’s going to be remarkably interesting to see how the landscape of education will change following the close of the pandemic. In my own practice, I have seen some students thrive in the online setting. Others struggled more than they already were when we were meeting in person. I, for one, do not feel I can do my job effectively through a screen. So, I’m really looking forward to the return of my commute in the Fall; a return to my podcasts and music jam sessions.
First and foremost, great Radiohead reference. You sly dog making me miss live music.
Second, I miss aspects of my commute that you hit on. I found during the beginning of losing my commute, I wasn’t reading like I used to. So I simply adding reading into my morning routine to go with my coffee. Calling a friend on the walk from the train to the office became calling my parents. The one thing I haven’t found a place for is podcasts, which was a daily ritual for me, but now, is something I tend to do only while doing the dishes.
Third, I used to fly often. I miss that period of shutting down electronics, taking out a book, or simply “pulling a Puddy” for a few minutes (or heck, the full flight) on my way to a business meeting.
I also miss the serendipity of running into a friend or spotting someone you kind of know.
