Open thread: Your paternity leave experience

There’s been a lot of talk around paternity leave the last few weeks, especially in the US: Pete Buttigieg is taking it; Joe Rogan and Tucker Carlson aren’t happy about it; and when the evidence is overwhelming that it helps children, families, and even the economy.

The reaction to one man deciding to take a few weeks off to look after his kids shows just how far we have to go. Today I want to open things up, and let’s discuss our personal experiences around paternity leave. How long did you take off? How was it? What memories stand out? For those with more than one kid, did you do it the same each time? How did people at your work, or people you know, feel about it? And what would be your recommendation for any dads-to-be who are thinking about taking it?
