Discover more from The New Fatherhood
We interrupt your regular TNF communication for a brief promotional message. Here are three ways you could opt to reward yourself—or any other dads in your life—this Father’s Day:
The Good Dads Club clothing collection is now in the hands (and on the heads) of those who pre-ordered, and available for immediate despatch for anyone else. If you’re based in the EU or US, orders placed today (with priority shipping) should be delivered before Father’s Day. For UK folks, it’ll be there for sure. I’ve had the chance to give it a whirl, and am so happy with how they’ve turned out (as you can see from the photo, I’m not the only one). And a reminder: 100% of the profits from this collection will go to The New Fatherhood Therapy Fund, helping dads get access to mental health support whoever, or wherever, they might be.
Are you expecting? It might be your first. It might be your last. Or do you have a dad-to-be in your life you wish to bestow an excellent gift upon? The Expectant Dad Operating System, or TedOS, contains (almost) everything you need to know, everything you need to do, and everything you need to buy before welcoming a tiny human being into your home. 10% of each purchase will go to the Therapy Fund, and—depending on where you are in the world—prices will be discounted by as much as 60% at checkout. Find out more here.
Been reading this newsletter for a while, find yourself regularly thankful for it, and want to support what we’re doing here? Today is as good a time as any to sign up for an annual subscription to TNF, which comes with access to a community of wonderful dads throughout the world. Your subscription contributes towards paying guest writers, illustrators, and an audio engineer for an upcoming not-so-secret project. And for the next week and a bit you can sign up with a 20% discount. Go on, treat yo’self.
Sales pitch over. Regular programming can now recommence.
It’s nine days until Father’s Day. Maybe even less by the time you read this. This weekend, I’d love to know: what does your perfect Father’s Day look like? What are you hoping for next Sunday? How does that compare to a regular Sunday? And what’s one thing that might make all the difference next week?
When the clock strikes midnight and Father’s Day begins, I will be amongst a few thousand grown-ass-adults celebrating the closing of Sónar 2023, one of the world’s finest electronic music festivals; a place where the best and the brightest of the city turn up to serve looks whilst basking in good weather and even better vibes. So for Father’s Day, I’m hoping for as much tranquillity as my children can muster, along with a nice family lunch somewhere if we have sufficiently recovered. However, it may turn into a recreation of “Whale Watching,” quickly becoming the whole house’s favourite episode of Bluey, which features two hungover adults trying to do their very best parenting under non-optimal conditions.
Enough about me. What about you? What will a great Father’s Day look like where you are?
Open Thread: Dream Father's Day
A good friend of mine gave me this suggestion, take time to spend a little 1:1 time with each kid during the day. So thats what I have been trying to do the last couple of years. I have 3 kids 4-14 so its a range of activities from playing at the park to playing a good game of chess.
I would like to spend Father's Day wrapping up a long-weekend camping trip and seeing some beautiful corners of California with my kids and maybe fit in some giant sequoia gazing while we're at it.
In reality, I will likely spend a good chunk of it at home playing Tears of the Kingdom while my kids backseat-play and demand I main quest while I adamantly stick to my indefensible sidequest-only approach, and then we'll maybe make sandwiches together.
